Associated Press reporter Meg Kinnard reported on Wednesday that former President George W. Bush was thrilled with President Joe Biden finally taking over. So much so that he privately thanked House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-SC) for his role in the Democratic primary that cemented the nomination for Biden.
“You know, you’re the savior, because if you had not nominated Joe Biden, we would not be having this transfer of power today,” Bush reportedly told Clyburn, adding that Biden was “the only one who could have defeated the incumbent president.”

These comments would be one of the strongest rebukes made by Bush against former President Donald Trump, whom he reportedly disliked but typically avoided criticizing by name.
