President Joe Biden told reporters Wednesday that former President Trump left him a “very generous” letter in the oval office before departing the White House Wednesday morning. Biden spoke as he was signing a slew of executive orders in his new office.
“The president wrote a very generous letter. I’m not going to talk about it because it was private, so I will not talk about it until I talk to him, but it was generous,” Biden said, answering a question about the letter from a reporter. It was the only question Biden took from the press, according to CNN.
It has become a tradition for outgoing presidents to leave a note to their successor, usually on the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office.
The letters usually include a personal note of congratulations and support to the incoming president as well as a shared kinship of the hardships that can come with the highest job in the United States of America.
Trump spokesperson Judd Deere confirmed that Trump had left a letter to his successor in the Resolute Desk of the Oval Office, as is tradition.
