Mark Robinson, the GOP nominee for governor of North Carolina and current lieutenant governor, is under scrutiny after a CNN KFile investigation revealed a series of controversial comments he made on a pornography website. The remarks, made under the username “minisoldr,” include troubling statements about race, gender, and sexuality.
Robinson, who has a history of opposing transgender rights, expressed enjoyment of transgender pornography in his online comments, which contrasts sharply with his public stances. He has advocated for strict bathroom policies, asserting that individuals should use facilities corresponding to their birth-assigned gender.
“I like watching tranny on girl porn! That’s f*cking hot! It takes the man out while leaving the man in!” Robinson wrote, according to the report. “And yeah I’m a ‘perv’ too!”
In his past posts, Robinson shared graphic recollections of sexual experiences and his thoughts on various subjects related to gender and race. In response to CNN’s inquiry about the comments, he denied making them, labeling the revelations as “tabloid trash” and urging a focus on the issues facing North Carolinians.
These remarks have raised concerns among voters, especially given Robinson’s growing prominence within the GOP, supported by endorsements from former President Donald Trump and the North Carolina Republican Party.
Robinson’s history of controversial statements has frequently drawn backlash. During his 2020 campaign for lieutenant governor, he advocated for a total abortion ban without exceptions. He later expressed regret for financing an abortion for his now-wife in the 1980s.
Now running for governor, Robinson supports a “heartbeat” bill that would restrict abortion after a heartbeat is detected—around six weeks—with exceptions for rape, incest, and the health of the mother.
However, in December 2010, while using the username minisoldr on Nude Africa, he expressed a different sentiment regarding abortion, stating, “I don’t care. I just wanna see the sex tape!”
In a forum discussing Black Republicans in October 2010, Robinson made an unsolicited comment, declaring, “I’m a black NAZI!”
In March 2012, Robinson expressed a preference for Adolf Hitler over the political leadership in Washington during Barack Obama’s administration, stating, “I’d take Hitler over any of the leaders in Washington right now!”
His comments on Nude Africa often included derogatory language and slurs aimed at various groups, including Black, Jewish, and Muslim individuals.
Most recently, in a mostly positive forum discussion that included a photo of two men kissing after one returned from military deployment, Robinson posted the only negative comment.
“That’s sum ole sick a** f*ggot bullsh*t!” he wrote, according to CNN KFile.
Recent polling shows Robinson trailing behind Democratic opponent Josh Stein in the governor’s race, highlighting the potential impact of his past comments on his candidacy.
As the campaign unfolds, the contrast between Robinson’s past remarks and his public persona raises questions about his appeal to a broader electorate, especially regarding his suitability for higher office.
