A video from the NATO summit has gone viral—and it’s got people saying Queen Máxima of the Netherlands mocked President Donald Trump right to his face.
The clip shows Trump standing with Queen Máxima and King Willem-Alexander for a photo op at their palace, Huis ten Bosch, where Trump had been invited to stay instead of a hotel.
Trump grins, gives a thumbs-up, and says, “That’s the picture we want.” The king asks if he enjoyed his stay. Trump replies, “It was great. Thank you all very much.”
Then comes the moment that’s setting social media on fire: Queen Máxima turns slightly away from Trump, looks toward the camera, and seems to mimic his mouth. She stretches her lips, tightens her face, and flicks her tongue—movements that mirror Trump’s own speaking style.
Trump doesn’t react and appears unaware.
Online, the reaction was swift.
“Queen Maxima mimicking Trump’s mouth movements really got me,” posted political account Polling USA on X, alongside the video.
“Poor lady just got herself an entire Truth Social post,” one user joked.
Another wrote on YouTube in Dutch: “Maxima imitating that Trump mouth 😂.”
“The Queen mocking that taco clown to his face is GOLDEN!” someone else commented.
But not everyone saw it as mockery. Some jumped to Máxima’s defense, saying the moment was misunderstood.
One user wrote: “Máxima is Argentinian-Dutch and highly attuned to language and expression. Given her multilingual fluency (Spanish, Dutch, English), she’s known to pick up on linguistic quirks quickly, including accents and lip movements.”
Others suggested she was mouthing the Dutch word for “good” in response to Trump’s comment, not mocking him.
Máxima, 54, was born in Argentina and became Queen after marrying Willem-Alexander in 2002. They have three daughters. Willem-Alexander took the throne in 2013 after his mother stepped down.
Trump left the Netherlands on Wednesday after the NATO talks, where defense spending and unity were top issues. But it’s this awkward video moment—not the summit—that people can’t stop watching.
