Tom Homan, Trump’s so-called “border czar,” made a quick getaway from reporters Thursday when asked about a bombshell allegation: that he accepted $50,000 in cash from undercover FBI agents posing as businessmen.
Despite finding time for a cozy sit-down with Fox News, Homan had no interest in speaking with the rest of the press. As he exited the White House, he was immediately confronted by reporters pressing him on the alleged bribe.
“I don’t have time today, folks. I’m 20 minutes late,” Homan said, speeding past the press corps. One reporter shouted the question everyone’s been asking: “Did you take the $50,000 cash in a bag?”
“Give me a break!” Homan snapped, refusing to stop or respond further.
The alleged incident came to light last month, when reports surfaced that Homan had taken the money as part of an FBI sting operation involving undercover agents looking to land government contracts.
Since then, Homan has avoided any serious scrutiny—until Thursday’s failed escape attempt.
Earlier in the day, he addressed the accusation during an appearance on Fox News with Laura Ingraham. Or rather, he dodged it there, too.
“I did nothing criminal or illegal,” Homan said when asked about the FBI sting. Crucially, he didn’t deny taking the cash.
Ingraham didn’t push him. But that moment didn’t go unnoticed.
“This response will likely trigger more reporters to ask [the] same question,” CBS News correspondent Scott MacFarlane predicted.
And sure enough, when reporters tried, Homan bolted. Watch the clip below:
