Vice President J.D. Vance stood by President Donald Trump’s decision to launch a strike against Iran, pushing back against critics who called the move unconstitutional.

NBC host Kristen Welker told Vance that some lawmakers, including Congressman Thomas Massie and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, criticized Trump’s action. Massie called it unconstitutional, while Ocasio-Cortez said it was grounds for impeachment because Trump didn’t get Congress’s approval first.

Welker asked, “What do you say to members of Congress who say it was unconstitutional for the president to act unilaterally?”

Vance responded: “First of all, the President has clear authority to act to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and the worst weapon of mass destruction of them all is nuclear. The idea that this was outside of presidential authority, I think any real serious legal person would tell you that’s not true.”

Then Vance went further, taking a sharp jab at previous U.S. presidents: “I certainly empathize with Americans who are exhausted after 25 years of foreign entanglements in the Middle East. I understand the concern, but the difference is that back then we had dumb presidents, but now we have a president who actually knows how to accomplish America’s national security objectives.”

Vance made it clear that, in his view, Trump is the only president who knows how to get things done on national security, unlike his predecessors who, according to Vance, failed to act decisively.

This blunt defense highlights the sharp division over Trump’s Iran strike and the strong support he continues to receive from his allies.
