Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie slammed Donald Trump’s recent assertion during a gathering in the nation’s capital, where the ex-president proclaimed that he was “indicted for” his supporters.
Christie, who is currently vying against Trump for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, took a direct swipe at the former president after Trump characterized an indictment by “radical left Democrats” as a “remarkable badge of courage” at a Faith & Freedom Coalition conference in Washington over the weekend.
Trump declared, amidst fervent cheers from the audience, “I’m being indicted for you. And I believe the ‘you’ refers to more than 200 million people who love our country. They’re out there, and they love our country.”

Having endorsed Trump’s 2016 campaign and been a staunch ally until the 2021 Capitol riot, Christie rebuked these remarks while appearing on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday.
“He had the audacity to claim that he got indicted on our behalf. Now, I fail to see how it benefited the American people for him to remove highly sensitive intelligence and classified documents from the White House, obstructing the government’s attempts to retrieve them for over a year and a half, and ultimately subject himself to an FBI raid despite their prior request for him to return these materials voluntarily,” Christie stated.
He continued, “Moreover, to then face an indictment, which undoubtedly poses significant problems for the country, as no one wishes to witness such an occurrence. Donald Trump suggests this is all for us? It’s utterly absurd.”
