This week in Chicago, a television news crew fell victim to an armed robbery while conducting a report on a series of recent citywide robberies.

The incident occurred on Chicago’s west side early Monday morning when journalist and a cameraman from Univision Chicago, a Spanish-language station, were in the midst of their report on the west side of Chicago on an early Monday morning. At that point, three individuals wearing ski masks and armed with guns confronted them and demanded money.

The armed men took personal possessions from the reporter and cameraman before making their escape. Local law enforcement agencies informed nearby media sources about the incident. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and as of now, no suspects have been apprehended, with the police currently investigating the robbery.

Just a few weeks ago, another incident occurred where a photographer working for WLS-TV, based in Chicago, was physically assaulted and robbed. This incident happened as the photographer was preparing to cover a news conference on the city’s west side on a regular weekday afternoon.

While covering the events of Monday, The Washington Post pointed out that Chicago’s recent crime data reflects a decline in the occurrence of homicides and shootings, but a noticeable rise in incidents of robberies and carjackings.
