Former President Donald Trump’s loyalists within his campaign and the Republican National Committee (RNC) are gearing up for a different kind of battle in the upcoming November election: a mission to disrupt the status quo and inject chaos into the electoral process.
In a move announced Friday morning, Trump’s campaign and the Republican National Committee (RNC) plans to deploy a significant force of 100,000 lawyers and volunteers across key battleground states to monitor and challenge the vote count in the upcoming November election if the count isn’t going in Trump’s favor.
This initiative is spearheaded by Michael Whatley, recently appointed as RNC chair. He champions the planned electoral disruption under the guise of “Election integrity.”
“Election integrity is the foundation of our democracy,” Whatley said in a statement. “Through this unprecedented program, we are mobilizing lawyers and volunteers who are committed to preserving the sanctity of our elections.”
The Trump campaign and the RNC outline their strategy, which includes deploying a legion of “vigorous legal teams” to oversee various stages of the electoral process, from voting machine evaluations and early voting to Election Day activities, mail-in ballot processing, and the post-election canvassing, audits, and recounts.
“Lawyers will guide poll watchers through the appropriate election code and provide clarity on how various issues should be answered, resolved or escalated,” according to the announcement. “This system will be operational from the first day of early voting through election day – and afterward if necessary.”
Trump himself chimed in on the plan, saying: “Having the right people to count the ballots is just as important as turning out voters on Election Day. Republicans are now working together to protect the vote and ensure a big win on November 5th!”
While partisan monitoring is permissible in most states, it’s strictly regulated to prevent any form of voter intimidation or obstruction. Nonetheless, it’s evident that their aim is to throw wrenches into the works and undermine confidence in the system.
This brazen approach reflects Trump’s penchant for chaos and disruption, and his belief that the rules of engagement are meant to be bent, if not broken, in pursuit of victory.
