Donald Trump is once again catching heat for a comment that many are calling downright creepy. On Monday, during a conversation with reporters aboard Air Force One, the president turned his attention to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt — and not for her messaging strategy or performance at the podium.
“How’s Karoline doing? She doing good? Should Karoline be replaced?” Trump asked.
“That’s up to you, sir,” a reporter replied.
Trump’s response? “It’ll never happen,” before adding the line that set social media on fire: “That face and those lips, they move like a machine gun, right?”
This wasn’t a one-off either. Trump made nearly the same remark in August while fawning over Leavitt during an interview with NewsMax’s Rob Finnerty.
“It’s that face. It’s that brain. It’s those lips, the way they move. They move like she’s a machine gun,” he said then, calling her a “great person” and “amazing.”
Whatever he was trying to communicate — admiration? praise? — it didn’t land well. The internet lit up with reactions, and most of them weren’t pretty.
“Gross,” one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“Why does he talk like that?” another asked.
“Imagine your boss saying this about you, in public,” someone else posted.
“Not even trying to hide it anymore,” another comment read.
Critics slammed the remarks as “objectifying” and “tone-deaf,” especially considering Leavitt is the youngest press secretary in history and has already been under a microscope since stepping into the high-profile role.
Some noted the pattern. Trump has long been known for making remarks that veer into uncomfortable — and often sexist — territory when talking about women who work for him. But even by Trump standards, this one stood out.
“It’s like he thinks he’s complimenting her, but it just comes off weird and inappropriate,” one user said.
Others questioned why no one in his circle is pushing back. “It’s 2025 and we’re still doing this? And no one’s telling him it’s not okay?”
