MSNBC’s national affairs analyst John Heilemann suggested that President Donald Trump’s effort to shift focus away from the Jeffrey Epstein case may point to one thing: there’s something in the documents that Trump doesn’t want the public to see.
The comment came during Tuesday’s broadcast of Morning Joe, as the panel discussed how some MAGA figures quickly backed off their outrage over the Justice Department’s handling of the Epstein case. That sudden silence followed Trump’s post on Truth Social over the weekend, telling his followers to ignore the Epstein files.
In his Truth Social post, Trump accused Democrats of fabricating the documents altogether, writing: “Why are we giving publicity to Files written by Obama, Crooked Hillary, Comey, Brennan, and the Losers and Criminals of the Biden Administration?”
He continued, “They created the Epstein Files.”
Heilemann saw Trump’s post as more than political deflection. “Trump’s behavior suggests that maybe there is something there that he’s told Pam Bondi he doesn’t want to have out in the public,” he said. “Who knows what that might be?”
Heilemann acknowledged that the idea of some hidden “master list” of names linked to Epstein is likely a myth. Still, he said the way Trump is trying to steer the conversation could be telling.
“Donald Trump over the weekend… sounding a lot like, when he started saying that the Epstein files existed… blaming it on the Democratic deep state… he was maybe trying to lay the groundwork for the release of some documents that he was then going to claim were the creation of John Brennan and Jim Comey and Hillary Clinton and whoever else, which is a normal Trump move.”
Heilemann added that Epstein, though “a sicko and a criminal,” was no fool—and probably didn’t keep a neat paper trail.
“You would have thought that guy would have watched The Wire and learned from Stringer Bell that if you’re running a criminal conspiracy, you don’t want to put a lot of it down on paper,” he said.
So far, there’s no confirmed “magic list,” but Heilemann and others are raising eyebrows at Trump’s sudden urgency to discredit the files—before most people even know what’s in them.
One theory claims the real reason for the secrecy is video proof of the president with underage girls. Shockingly, some even suggest that foreign leaders like Vladimir Putin and Benjamin Netanyahu may have copies of these videos and could be using them to control Trump.
