Former President Barack Obama proudly holds a Nobel Peace Prize, a distinction that seems to deeply irk Donald Trump. At a recent rally in Detroit, Trump couldn’t help but attack his predecessor’s honor, exposing the extent of his jealousy. In a striking moment, he even suggested that he wished his name were “Obama,” highlighting just how much this award continues to gnaw at him.
“If I were named Obama, I would’ve had the Nobel Prize handed to me in 10 seconds,” Trump lamented. “He got elected, and they announced the prize. Remember? He asked, ‘Oh, what did I do?’ He was clueless. He got that award for doing nothing—just for being elected. But I got elected too!”
Trump’s frustration didn’t stop there. He pointed to the Abraham Accords, a set of treaties that normalized relations between Israel and several Arab nations under his administration in 2020. With palpable bitterness, he noted that his diplomatic success went unrecognized by the Nobel committee.
“Unprecedented! No one thought it was possible,” he seethed. I’m not saying ‘want’ or not, I’m not saying—I’m just saying, if it was anybody else, liberal, Democrat, they would’ve had it before the damn thing was even signed.”
He added that he wasn’t “looking for it, politicking for it,” but merely that he was pointing out “there’s a lot of unfairness in this world.”
