President Donald Trump is warning New York City voters that choosing Zohran Mamdani as their next mayor could trigger dire consequences — and he’s not holding back. In a sprawling Truth Social post on Monday, Trump threatened to withhold federal funds from his “beloved first home” if the Democratic Socialist wins Tuesday’s election.
“If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the Election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds, other than the very minimum as required, to my beloved first home, because of the fact that, as a Communist, this once great City has ZERO chance of success, or even survival!” Trump wrote.
Trump painted a bleak picture of what he believes would happen under Mamdani’s leadership. “It can only get worse with a Communist at the helm, and I don’t want to send, as President, good money after bad. It is my obligation to run the Nation, and it is my strong conviction that New York City will be a Complete and Total Economic and Social Disaster should Mamdani win.”
This is not the first time Trump has threatened New York over the mayoral race. He has previously suggested withholding federal funding for infrastructure projects if Mamdani wins. Some MAGA-aligned lawmakers have also floated threats to review Mamdani’s legal status — a thinly veiled reference to potential deportation.
Trump also attacked Mamdani’s record and political experience. “His principles have been tested for over a thousand years, and never once have they been successful,” Trump wrote. “I would much rather see a Democrat, who has had a Record of Success, WIN, than a Communist with no experience and a Record of COMPLETE AND TOTAL FAILURE. He was nothing as an Assemblyman, ranked at the bottom of the class and, as Mayor of potentially, again, the Greatest City in the World, HE HAS NO CHANCE to bring it back to its former Glory!”
The post reads as more than just partisan rhetoric — it’s a direct threat to one of the nation’s largest cities, signaling that Trump sees federal support not as a guarantee for citizens, but as leverage for political loyalty.
