Donald Trump is going after Canada once again, this time blasting the province of Ontario after it hiked electricity prices for several U.S. states. Ontario’s new 25% surcharge on electricity sold to Minnesota, Michigan, and New York has Trump furious, claiming it’s a direct hit against American interests.

“Canada is a tariff abuser, and always has been, but the United States is not going to be subsidizing Canada any longer,” Trump fumed on Truth Social. “We don’t need your cars, we don’t need your lumber, we don’t need your energy, and very soon, you will find that out.”

Trump then switched gears, promoting The Apprentice reruns available on Amazon Prime Video.

“Back by popular demand, for the first time in 20 years, the Emmy nominated ORIGINAL APPRENTICE STARRING PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP is back!! Watch Season 1 of The Apprentice, now streaming on Prime Video. New seasons every Monday! #TheApprentice,” the U.S. president wrote.

Ontario’s price increase is in retaliation for Trump’s trade war. Premier Doug Ford made it clear: “President Trump’s tariffs are a disaster for the U.S. economy. They’re making life more expensive for American families and businesses. Until the threat of tariffs is gone for good, Ontario won’t back down. We’ll stand strong, use every tool in our toolkit, and do whatever it takes to protect Ontario.”

Ford dismissed Trump’s one-month tariff pause as meaningless, saying it only creates more uncertainty. The new surcharge is expected to bring in $300,000 to $400,000 Canadian ($208,000 to $277,000 USD) per day, money that will be used to support Ontario’s workers, families, and businesses.

This electricity surcharge is just one part of Canada’s broader retaliation. Already, $30 billion Canadian ($21 billion USD) in tariffs have been slapped on U.S. goods like orange juice, peanut butter, coffee, and motorcycles.

Trump’s tariffs are pushing the U.S. into deeper trade wars with Canada, Mexico, and China—wars that are hurting American consumers and businesses, while destabilizing global markets.
