Jimmy Kimmel took a sledgehammer to Donald Trump’s long-running habit of promising big things “in two weeks” — and never delivering.
On Jimmy Kimmel Live Thursday night, the late-night host called out Trump’s latest delay tactic after a White House announcement said the former president would make a major decision on potential military action in the Iran-Israel conflict… in two weeks.
“This situation is very tricky for Trump,” Kimmel said. “Because the MAGAverse is intensely divided on this subject. A lot of them, including Tucker Carlson, Steve Bannon, the Klan mom, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and a huge chunk of Trump’s base are not in favor of US military intervention anywhere. And on the other side, you got Ted Cruz, you got Fox News, you got Lindsey Graham. They want to take this opportunity to put Iran’s nuclear ambitions to a permanent end.”
Kimmel pointed out that Trump campaigned on staying out of foreign wars — the “America First” message. But now, with Iran in the crosshairs, things aren’t so simple.
“He said he will make peace. We will stay out of foreign wars. We will let everyone else worry about themselves. We won’t get involved,” Kimmel reminded viewers. “But also, he lies a lot, so who the hell knows what he’s gonna do?”
Kimmel also mocked Trump’s over-the-top threats.
“Trump gave Iran what he called the ultimate ultimatum, which is kind of like the final finale, but scarier,” he joked. “He really enjoys making threats and he loves attaching them to timelines too.”
Then came the clip that set it all off — Trump’s press secretary Karoline Leavitt with the latest “two weeks” classic:
KAROLINE LEAVITT: “I have a message directly from the President, and I quote: ‘Based on the fact that there’s a substantial chance of negotiations that may or may not take place with Iran in the near future, I will make my decision whether or not to go within the next two weeks.’”
Kimmel didn’t miss a beat.
“Two weeks. It’s always two weeks,” he said. “Always two weeks for a guy whose catchphrase was you’re fired. No one has ever given more two weeks’ notice.”
To drive the point home, Kimmel rolled out a rapid-fire video montage — a supercut of Trump saying “two weeks” over and over through the years.
Whether it was about Ukraine, Putin, healthcare, climate change, press briefings, or policy rollouts, Trump kept using the same dodge.
TRUMP: “I’ll let you know in about two weeks.”
TRUMP: “We’re going to be having a news conference in about two weeks.”
TRUMP: “I think you’re going to find some very interesting items coming to the forefront over the next two weeks.”
TRUMP: “In about two weeks.”
TRUMP: “Within two weeks.”
Kimmel joked that Trump has used “two weeks” so often that it was hard to fit all the examples on one screen.
And while the joke landed, the implications were serious: Trump has built a political brand on big promises — and long delays. Kimmel’s punchline made that crystal clear.
