Donald Trump is back to ranting about wind turbines — and this time, he did it while sitting across from the president of the European Commission.

In the middle of a meeting in Scotland with Ursula von der Leyen, Trump suddenly veered off topic. Without warning, he launched into a long, confused attack on wind power.

“We will not allow a windmill to be built in the United States,” Trump declared. “They’re killing us.”

He went on, painting a bizarre picture of a ruined American landscape:
“They’re killing the beauty of our scenery, our valleys, our beautiful plains ― and I’m not talking about airplanes. I’m talking about beautiful plains, beautiful areas in the United States, and you look up and you see windmills all over the place. It’s a horrible thing.”

From there, things spiraled.

“It’s the most expensive form of energy. It’s no good. They’re made in China, almost all of them. They rust and rot in eight years. You can’t bury them. They hurt the soil,” he claimed. “The whole thing is a con job. It’s very expensive. And in all fairness, Germany tried it and wind doesn’t work.”

Every part of that is false. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, wind turbines typically last 30 years. Wind isn’t the most expensive energy source — in fact, it’s among the cheapest. And no, they’re not “almost all” made in China. As for Germany? Wind makes up over 25% of their total energy mix — and rising.

So why the obsession? Trump has been ranting about wind power for years, ever since a wind farm was planned near his Scottish golf resort. He sued to stop it. He lost. He’s never let it go.

He even brought it up during the same meeting.

“Today I’m playing the best course I think in the world, Turnberry ― even though I own it ― it’s probably the best course in the world, right?” he said. “And I look over the horizon and I see nine windmills. … I said, ‘Isn’t that a shame? What a shame.’”

This isn’t new. Back in 2019, Trump went so far as to falsely claim wind turbines cause cancer. Last year, he said:

“The wind, the wind, it sounds so wonderful. The wind, the wind, the wind is, the wind is bullshit, I’ll tell you.”

This latest rant had critics stunned — and not in a good way.

“Complete gibberish,” wrote user @arkstfan.

“WTF: Moment of mental decline […] Take his keys!” tweeted @CalltoActivism.

“So embarrassing,” another user chimed in.

@philBE2 posted: “Yet another flagrant case of WDS (Windmill Derangement Syndrome) emerging recurrently in 🌮🫡👔 Donnie’s attempt to conduct half-coherent conversations with world-leaders…🧐”

Scottish MP John Nicolson simply called it: “Incoherent gibberish from #Trump in #Scotland.”
