Donald Trump is lashing out at his own base, slamming supporters who believe he’s hiding something about Jeffrey Epstein. In a fiery Truth Social post on Wednesday, Trump called the scandal “the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax” and said some of his fans had been “conned” into believing it.
“Their new SCAM is what we will forever call the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax, and my PAST supporters have bought into this ‘bulls*,’ hook, line, and sinker,”** Trump wrote.
“They haven’t learned their lesson, and probably never will, even after being conned by the Lunatic Left for 8 long years.”
Trump’s angry post follows growing frustration among his supporters over the federal government’s handling of the Epstein case. A recent Justice Department report said there is no secret “client list” and that Epstein died by suicide in 2019—a conclusion many right-wing influencers refuse to accept.
When Trump doubled down on those findings over the weekend, it sparked major backlash online. For the first time on his own platform, Trump was “ratioed”—a sign his post drew more negative reactions than support.
In Wednesday’s follow-up, Trump went further, insulting followers who still push Epstein conspiracy theories.
“Let these weaklings continue forward and do the Democrats’ work,” he wrote. “Don’t even think about talking of our incredible and unprecedented success, because I don’t want their support anymore!”
Many Trump supporters had hoped the release of sealed Epstein documents would confirm long-held beliefs about elite sex trafficking rings. But last week, House Republicans blocked a vote to release the full Epstein files, and Trump defended Attorney General Pam Bondi, who had promised action but delivered little.
Asked about the controversy, Trump brushed it off. “I don’t understand what the interest or what the fascination is. I really don’t,” he told a reporter Tuesday. “I don’t understand why the Jeffrey Epstein case would be of interest to anybody. It’s pretty boring stuff, it’s sordid, but it’s boring.”
Trump’s sudden dismissal of the Epstein story—and his open scorn for those still pushing it—has shocked many in the MAGA crowd, where Epstein has long been a rallying point.
Trump and Epstein were once social acquaintances in Palm Beach. In a 2002 profile, Trump said Epstein was “a terrific guy” who “likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them on the younger side.” Flight records show Trump flew on Epstein’s private jet multiple times in the 1990s. In 2000, Epstein’s accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell recruited a 16-year-old girl from Mar-a-Lago to work for Epstein.
Trump later claimed he cut ties with Epstein after a 2004 real estate dispute, telling reporters after Epstein’s death: “I had a falling out with him. I haven’t spoken to him in 15 years. I was not a fan of his, that I can tell you.”
Despite this, the Epstein issue continues to haunt him. Some Republican lawmakers and MAGA influencers want full transparency—but Trump is clearly frustrated and wants the scandal to go away.
Political analyst Mark Shanahan said the rift could be serious. “The Epstein backlash has the power to hurt Trump badly and will be far and away the largest factor in his latest polling slip,” he said.
For now, the fight over the Epstein files is stalled. House Republicans show no sign of reviving the vote. And Trump, once seen by some in his base as the man who would “expose the elites,” now calls the whole story a “scam”—and the people still asking questions, “weaklings.”
