President Donald Trump appears to have accidentally promoted one of the better arguments against his own presidency on Wednesday.
Trump reposted a furious rant from right-wing influencer Matt Van Swol blasting Republicans for failing to deliver on the promises that helped put them in power.
The post didn’t exactly pull its punches.
“I don’t think the GOP fully grasp how badly they are fucking up right now,” Van Swol wrote.
According to Van Swol, even people who normally have “ZERO interest in politics” are getting angry because they aren’t seeing the sweeping changes they were promised.
“They are not seeing the major reform they thought would happen and are REALLY MAD about it,” he wrote.
And then Trump, the president, the leader of the Republican Party and the person ultimately sitting at the top of the Republican agenda, shared it.
That’s the awkward part.
Van Swol complained that Republicans have failed to deliver on several major promises, including a “meaningful decrease in the deficit.”
Trump’s decision to amplify the complaint essentially invited his own followers to consider the question Who exactly do they think is responsible?
The GOP isn’t delivering what voters were promised
Van Swol also took aim at Republicans in Congress, arguing that lawmakers have failed to pass major pieces of the Trump agenda, including election-related legislation.
“People believed they were voting for the Trump agenda,” Van Swol wrote. “and instead, many feel like they’re getting the same old Washington.”
He warned that Republicans could pay a political price if they don’t start producing visible results.
“If Republicans in Congress don’t start producing tangible results, they’re going to discover that frustration has consequences,” he wrote.
That’s a message Trump apparently wanted his followers to see.
There is, however, a rather significant omission in that argument.
Trump isn’t some guy watching the Republican Party from the sidelines. He’s its president and de facto leader.
If Republicans are failing to deliver the agenda voters were promised, Trump can certainly blame Congress. But reposting a rant accusing the GOP of failing to deliver doesn’t exactly remove him from the equation.
If anything, it makes the whole thing look like the captain of the ship retweeting a complaint about the crew.
Van Swol has been unhappy with the GOP for a while. He declared himself “done with the GOP” back in May 2025.
Now he’s back with another blistering assessment of the party’s performance—and Trump has given it an enormous audience by reposting it.
Which raises an amusing question: Was Trump trying to criticize Republicans in Congress? Was he agreeing with Van Swol?
Or did he simply repost a complaint about his own party without stopping to consider tha he is, in fact, the leader of that party?
Either way, the post landed.
The president of the Republican Party just gave his followers a viral reminder of why some of them are frustrated with the Republican Party.
And he did it himself, in what may be one of the funniest political self-owns yet.
