President Donald Trump sent well wishes to Joe Biden after the announcement that Biden has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

“Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”

Trump’s message came shortly after Biden’s personal office shared news of the diagnosis. According to a statement, the cancer is aggressive but can be managed with treatment. “While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management,” the statement said. “The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.”

Other Republicans also expressed their support for the Biden family.

Trump’s message comes just days after he criticized Biden, calling him “hapless and cognitively impaired.” That comment followed the release of audio from a 2023 interview Biden gave to special counsel Robert Hur, where he had trouble remembering some events.

Biden’s diagnosis was announced as he faces increased media attention. Reports have questioned how the White House and the Democratic Party have handled his health and public image. Some Democrats have even suggested Biden should have stepped down from the race earlier.

When asked about that, Pete Buttigieg, a former Cabinet member and possible 2028 candidate, said, “Right now, with the benefit of hindsight, I think most people would agree that that’s the case.” He also added, “We’re also not in a position to wallow in hindsight. We’ve got to get ready for some fundamental tests of the future of this country and this party, some of which are going on this very year, and many of which will come next year.”
