Donald Trump’s weekend golf trips during his second term are on track to cost U.S. taxpayers more than $151.5 million, according to a new analysis. Since returning to the presidency, Trump has already spent over $18 million on his golf getaways, and if the trend continues, he will soon surpass the $151.5 million he spent on golf trips during his first term.
Trump has played golf at his Florida courses six times in the seven weekends since his second term began. This Saturday marked his 13th golf day of his 48 days in office, with 10 of those days spent at his West Palm Beach course, which is just across the Intracoastal Waterway from his Mar-a-Lago home. He has also spent three days at his Doral course near Miami International Airport.
A 2019 Government Accountability Office report found that each of Trump’s early trips to Mar-a-Lago during his first term cost taxpayers roughly $3.38 million. Adjusted for inflation, these costs would be even higher today.
Trump and his entourage fly on Air Force One, and military planes transport the vehicles needed for his motorcade. Security includes police boats patrolling the Intracoastal Waterway and Coast Guard vessels stationed offshore. Additional expenses cover law enforcement and bomb-sniffing dogs.
Despite claiming that he was “too busy” to play golf on his first trip after retaking office, Trump was photographed playing at his Doral course just days later, further driving up the cost of his golf weekends.
