President Donald Trump on Monday slammed Republican Sen. Tom Cotton after the Arkansas senator announced he would not join Trump’s challenge to the electoral votes on January 6th.
Trump appeared angry at Cotton for choosing not to join a gang of Senate Republicans who would oppose the certified electoral results in several states Trump lost.
“How can you certify an election when the numbers being certified are verifiably WRONG. You will see the real numbers tonight during my speech, but especially on JANUARY 6th.
@SenTomCotton Republicans have pluses & minuses, but one thing is sure, THEY NEVER FORGET!” Trump tweeted.
Cotton argued that Senators opposing the results of the 2020 Electoral College would “establish unwise precedents” in future elections and called the effort a “perversion of the Founders’ intent to have the states run elections, not Congress.”
Trump also described the group of Republicans unwilling to contest the election as the “Surrender Caucus” and warned of the consequences of their actions.
“The ‘Surrender Caucus’ within the Republican Party will go down in infamy as weak and ineffective ‘guardians’ of our Nation, who were willing to accept the certification of fraudulent presidential numbers!” he wrote.
