President Donald Trump is facing major backlash after ordering airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites. A new CNN/SSRS poll shows most Americans oppose the strikes and believe they only made the situation worse.
The survey, conducted just days after the strikes, found that 56% of Americans disapprove of the U.S. military action in Iran. Only 44% approve.
Political divides are clear. Among Republicans, 82% support the strikes. But 88% of Democrats disapprove, and 60% of independents stand against the military move.
When it comes to trusting Trump’s judgment on Iran, the results are even harsher. Over half of Americans say they don’t trust him to make the right decisions about using force in Iran. Thirty-eight percent trust him “not at all,” and another 17% trust him “not much.” Only 22% say they trust him a “great deal.”
Republicans remain loyal, with 51% saying they trust Trump “a great deal” on the issue. But 71% of Democrats say they trust him “not at all,” and 59% of independents feel the same.
Beyond trust, most Americans — 58% — believe the strikes will make Iran more of a threat to the U.S., not less. Just 27% think the military action will reduce the threat.
The poll was conducted June 22–23 with 1,030 respondents and a margin of error of ±3.5 points. These numbers come before Trump announced a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, a deal already shaky amid accusations of violations.
