During a press briefing on Friday, Donald Trump tried to make himself seem like a hero to the island of Puerto Rico. He claimed that he was “the best thing that ever happened to Puerto Rico.”
Trump’s claims come as an attempt to sway the Latino vote his way. His remarks came after the White House authorized $11.6 billion in aid to rebuild infrastructure on Puerto Rico three years after Hurricane Maria devastated the island.
When asked why it took so long to give the U.S. territory aid Trump just blamed Democrats.
Question: This aid package to Puerto Rico, why not a year ago? Why not two years ago? Why not three years ago?
Trump: Because what we’re doing is we’ve been working on it for a long time to get it passed. pic.twitter.com/QWagDvq174— Acyn Torabi (@Acyn) September 18, 2020
But voters aren’t buying Trump’s lies. Here’s how people are reacting to his comments:
Riiiiiight.
People in Puerto Rico remember how they were abandoned and forgotten. His attempts are laughable.

So…
He openly admitted, AGAIN, that he's entirely inept at doing his job.

Going out on a limb here but I think he’s lost the Puerto Rican vote.

A year ago, two years ago and three years ago he wasn't worried about getting reelected..We know that, but he doesn't know that we know that..He thinks we are all as dumb as his followers..

Actually, he was hoping to swap PR for Greenland so he wouldn't have to spend that money on brown people.

Trump threw Puerto Rico under the bus Didn’t even realize Puerto Rico is part of the United States and his only help to them was throwing them rolls of paper towels pic.twitter.com/4q7XfuLgGV
