In a series of furious social media posts, former President Donald Trump vented his frustration about the ongoing investigations into his actions, following a meeting between his legal team and Justice Department (DOJ) officials.
Taking to his Truth Social site, Trump made several wild claims, alleging that he is a victim of political targeting and drawing misleading comparisons between his own case and President Biden’s handling of classified information.
“They are solely focused on ELECTION INTERFERENCE. They don’t want to face me in the race,” he wrote. “I ran twice, and the second time I performed significantly better, accumulating millions more votes than the first, setting a record for a sitting President. I am currently leading Biden by a considerable margin in the polls. They are the Party of Disinformation! They are weaponizing the DOJ & FBI against me to manipulate the 2024 Election.”
In another post, he wrote, “The DOJ & FBI, filled with Marxists and Fascists, are aggressively pursuing me like never before. Yet, I have done nothing wrong. Joe Biden retained thousands of documents, some obtained unlawfully from secure areas during his time as a Senator, many of which were classified. He refused to return them then and continues to do so. He faces no consequences, benefiting from the same fair-minded prosecutor who rightfully cleared Mike Pence. However, I face a prosecutor with different motives—a Trump hater!”
Jack Smith, a special counsel from the DOJ, is presently investigating Trump’s handling of classified materials after a significant number of sensitive documents were found at his Mar-a-Lago estate last summer. The documents were discovered during an FBI raid conducted because Trump refused to surrender them to the National Archives.
Simultaneously, another special counsel is scrutinizing Biden’s handling of classified material after documents were found at his residences in Wilmington, Del., and a former office in Washington, D.C., from his tenure as vice president. Biden’s team promptly notified federal officials about the discovery and handed over the documents.
In recent weeks, the Justice Department also exonerated former Vice President Mike Pence of any wrongdoing when a small number of classified documents were found at his Indiana home in January.
In a separate post, Trump claimed that he is being targeted as retribution for Republican lawmakers pursuing investigations against Democrats. He stated, “The difference is, they have committed serious crimes, whereas I have committed none!”
According to reports from multiple news outlets, Trump’s legal team met with DOJ officials the day prior to his social media outburst to discuss the ongoing case against him.
ABC News reported that the meeting involved Jack Smith, who is not only involved in the document case but is also investigating Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results and retain power, including his role in the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
In addition to the special counsel investigation, Trump faces legal scrutiny in Georgia, where a state prosecutor is examining his team’s attempts to overturn the state’s 2020 election results.
Furthermore, in April, the Manhattan district attorney charged Trump with more than 30 felony counts related to a hush money scheme aimed at silencing an alleged affair with a porn star during the 2016 campaign.
Trump has vehemently denied these allegations.
