Rep. Liz Cheney was voted out of her post in the House Republican leadership after rejecting President Trump’s lie that he won the 2020 presidential election. Even so, signs of Republican fissures continue to be seen everywhere.
Cheney’s allies have rushed to her defense, warning that ousting the political scion for telling the truth would send a terrible message to voters that the GOP favors Trump over election integrity.
One of the harshest criticism came from Rep. Adam Kinzinger, who’s emerged as Cheney’s most vocal defender. The Illinois Republican slammed his party leader Kevin McCarthy,
“Kevin McCarthy (an employee of Donald Trump) may win … but history won’t be kind,” Kinzinger tweeted. “Never has our party gone after it’s own leadership like this, but Kevin and Steve Scalise made history, because Trump has thin skin. I’d be embarrassed if I was them.”
