Donald Trump cranked the distraction dial to full blast, mangling the name of his new celebrity obsession in a bizarre, unhinged rant—complete with a seething declaration that he “can’t stand” Taylor Swift.
In a rambling post on Truth Social Monday morning, the president kicked off a rant about actress Sydney Sweeney by calling her “Sidney.” The post was quickly deleted and replaced—but it was too late. Screenshots of the gaffe spread like wildfire online, turning a sloppy typo into a viral embarrassment.
“Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the ‘HOTTEST’ ad out there. It’s for American Eagle, and the jeans are ‘flying off the shelves.’ Go get ‘em Sydney!” the revised post said.
Trump, who has ties to the billionaire Schottenstein family behind American Eagle, seemed more interested in Sweeney’s looks than her politics. The post sent American Eagle’s stock soaring nearly 18%—a sudden boost tied directly to Trump’s gushing praise.
But the attention wasn’t just about her ad.
“She’s a registered Republican? Now I love her ad,” Trump told reporters on Sunday. “You’d be surprised at how many people are Republicans. That’s what I wouldn’t have known, but I’m glad you told me that.”
Trump’s comments echoed a wave of right-wing praise for Sweeney after news of her political affiliation broke. Sen. Ted Cruz and VP JD Vance jumped on the bandwagon, with Vance even saying: “My political advice to the Democrats is continue to tell everybody who thinks Sydney Sweeney is attractive is a Nazi.”
Trump didn’t stop there. After drooling over Sweeney’s “great genes,” he turned the rant toward his usual targets—“woke” companies and Taylor Swift.
“On the other side of the ledger, Jaguar did a stupid, and seriously WOKE advertisement, THAT IS A TOTAL DISASTER!” he wrote. He blamed the car company’s new direction and ad campaign—featuring nontraditional models—for the downfall of CEO Adrian Mardell, who recently stepped down.
“Who wants to buy a Jaguar after looking at that disgraceful ad?” Trump continued, referring to the brand’s attempt to “break moulds” with slogans like “delete ordinary” and “create exuberant.”
He then took a swing at Bud Light, referencing the 2023 Dylan Mulvaney backlash.
“Jaguar should have learned a lesson from Bud Lite, which went Woke and essentially destroyed, in a short campaign, the Company,” he wrote, seemingly mixing it up with another brand.
“The market cap destruction has been unprecedented, with BILLIONS OF DOLLARS SO FOOLISHLY LOST.”
Then came the inevitable shot at Taylor Swift.
“Or just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift. Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can’t stand her (HATE!),” Trump raged, bringing up his previous comments about the pop star.
“She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT.”
He ended the post with a classic Trump signoff: “The tide has seriously turned — Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
