Donald Trump is claiming he personally helped take down Elon Musk by leaking dirt about the billionaire’s alleged drug use, according to journalist and author Michael Wolff.

Speaking on The Daily Beast podcast Wednesday, Wolff said Trump has been obsessively talking about Musk on private phone calls—and even bragged that he was the source behind a bombshell New York Times story that accused Musk of using a cocktail of illegal and prescription drugs.

“In one of these phone calls—many of them—he was on about, you know, how many drugs he takes,” Wolff said. “‘He takes drugs all the time. You know that, don’t you? You know, The New York Times wrote about it. They said, he takes drugs.’”

Then Trump allegedly dropped the bomb: “‘Actually, we dropped a dime to The New York Times… on Elon’s drug taking.’”

Wolff says he can’t confirm whether Trump or someone from his team really was the source, but the president “is just claiming credit for that now.”

The Times reported in May that Musk had been using ketamine, Adderall, ecstasy, and psychedelic mushrooms—some of it allegedly while helping fund Trump’s 2024 campaign. Musk denies he’s using any drugs.

Wolff, author of Fire and Fury, said Trump was calling up allies this week and trashing Musk. “He’s like, calling people to say, ‘Do you think Elon is crazy?’” he said.

The feud exploded again after Musk railed against Trump’s massive new spending bill online. That public criticism reportedly pushed Trump over the edge. On Tuesday, Trump even threatened to cut off Musk’s government subsidies, saying he could be sent “back home to South Africa.”

Their relationship has now turned into a bitter vendetta. Wolff called it a “blood score.”

Musk, the world’s richest man, isn’t backing down either. He’s threatening to launch a new political party—the “America Party”—and fund challengers to Republicans who support what he calls the “biggest debt increase in history.”

Trump’s team has denied Wolff’s past reporting. A spokesman previously called him a “lying sack of s–t who fabricates stories.” The White House didn’t respond to a request for comment on the latest claim.
