Former President Donald Trump proudly displayed a special pin he received for his fryer skills during a visit to Swannanoa, North Carolina, on Monday. This lighthearted moment came amid the serious backdrop of Hurricane Helene’s devastation in the area.
After delivering remarks, Trump stepped aside for Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-NC), who expressed gratitude for Trump’s presence in a community deeply affected by the hurricane.
“We’ve seen other folks do a fly over. It is so heartening to see you here with some dust on your shoes, actually seeing what’s taken place.” Edwards said.
He continued, emphasizing the significance of Trump’s visit for the local residents. “It means so much to the folks here whose lives have been turned upside down, whose homes have been destroyed, who’s lost loved ones, whose businesses have been destroyed. We’re so incredibly honored that you’re going to help keep the emphasis on us rebuilding this beautiful community,” Edwards stated, also referencing Trump’s recent visit to a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania.
Edwards then revealed the highlight of the day: “For those of you who who did not get to see it, I offered, because you know, I also own McDonald’s restaurants, I know that you perfected your skills behind the counter a day or so ago. And it was my honor to present President Trump with the French Fries Certification Pin,” he said as Trump showcased the pin for photographers. “Thank you so much for being here, God bless you,” Edwards added.
Trump responded appreciatively, “Thank you very much, that’s really nice,” before returning to the podium.
His fast food “shift” sparked widespread attention, with many commentators praising it as a clever campaign strategy.
Pollster Kristen Soltis-Anderson remarked, “I think this was an unbelievably smart move! Because one thing that has differentiated Donald Trump from other really wealthy politicians is that he has never been seen as the aloof, the billionaire who would never deign to hang out with the commoners. “Like he has always sort of portrayed himself as I’m the rich guy who doesn’t really like the other rich guys. I’m one of you, and this is part of this. I think this was insanely smart!”
