Trump Asks Court To Block Prosecutors From Reviewing Classified Docs Seized At His Residence

Donald Trump has filed a 21-page motion seeking to temporarily block the FBI from reviewing classified documents seized from his home, asking the court to appoint a “special master” in the interim to help them review the evidence federal agents seized at his Mar-a-Lago home on August 8, 2022.

In his lawsuit, Trump claims that the search was politically motivated and asks for the court to bar the FBI from reviewing the evidence it has collected until a special master is appointed to ensure the materials seized from his home do not include items they argue could be protected by executive privilege.

“It is unreasonable to allow the prosecutorial team to review them without meaningful safeguards,” Trump’s attorneys wrote, according to The Hill.

“Short of returning the seized items to the movant, only a neutral review by a special master can protect the ‘great public interest’ in preserving ‘the confidentiality of conversations that take place in the president’s performance of his official duties.’ ”

“The filing confirms that Trump was previously subpoenaed for documents kept on his property with a May 11 order to compel the documents,” the report states. It also notes a second June 22 subpoena from DOJ for Mar-a-Lago security footage.

As noted by The Hill, “the filing is the first major legal action from Trump following the Aug. 8 search of his home indicating he may have violated the Espionage Act by mishandling documents.”
