Saturday Night Live didn’t hold back when they ripped into President Donald Trump and Elon Musk over the new tariffs, which have caused chaos in the stock market.

The cold open hit hard with a scene of Trump (played by James Austin Johnson) taking a victory lap over the tariffs. “Thank you all for coming out to hear about tariffs,” Trump says. “My favorite word, ‘tariff’ — which, of course, is short for ‘terrific idea.’”

The stock market crash was front and center. “We’re going to make America wealthy again — MAWA!” Trump declared. “You’re going to check your stock portfolio in a couple of days and think, ‘I’m almost too wealthy.’ We’re doing MAWA! But before that, we’re going to do MAGDA! MAGDA — make America great depression again. It’ll be better than great. It’ll be a fantastic, unbelievable depression!”

The sketch mocked the tariff chart from Trump’s Thursday news conference, using a giant Cheesecake Factory menu instead. Then, Elon Musk (played by SNL alum Mike Myers) entered, wearing a cheesehead hat. The show made fun of Musk’s eight-figure donation to a conservative candidate in a Wisconsin Supreme Court race — which the conservative lost.

“Say Cheese!” Musk joked. “Kidding, kidding, kidding! Legalized comedy. That was from when I tried to buy the election in Wisconsin. I’m an idiot. I should have just bought Wisconsin.”
