Actor Tom Holland, renowned for his role as Spider-Man, has opened up about the importance of prioritizing his mental well-being, especially after having what he called a “difficult” experience while filming the upcoming AppleTV+ miniseries “The Crowded Room.”
In an interview with Extra, Holland revealed that his involvement in the series, which delves into heavy subject matter related to mental health, proved to be a difficult and emotionally taxing experience. Exploring unfamiliar emotions throughout the production took a toll on him, leading him to realize the significance of taking a break, he told the publication.
In light of this, the “Spider-Man” star expressed his desire to step away from acting for a while, embracing a more ordinary life in his hometown of Kingston, where he plans to relax and recharge.
Although Holland expressed genuine enjoyment in the process of creating the series, he candidly admitted that it had an overwhelming impact on him, stating, “the show did shatter me.”
As a direct consequence of the immense challenges faced during the production, he made the decision to take a year-long hiatus from his acting career.
“There did come a time where I was like, I need to have a break. I disappeared, I went to Mexico for a week and had some time on a beach and laid low, and I’m now taking a year off and that is a result of how difficult this show was,” he said.
During the filming process, Holland expressed gratitude for the unwavering support he received from his friends, family, fellow cast members, and an on-set psychologist.
While on his hiatus from acting, Holland has been enjoying his time traveling, reconnecting with loved ones, and engaging in leisure activities like golf. He has even developed a newfound interest in gardening, dedicating himself to the task of nurturing and preserving plants. The experience also motivated Holland to make positive changes in his life, including taking a break from drinking.
