Thousands of federal employees have been getting rude and abusive emails since the Trump administration launched a new communications system earlier this month.
On Thursday, 13,000 employees at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) received a nasty email with the subject “Resign.” The message read, “Aren’t you tired of working for a complete cunt?”
Other employees have reported receiving messages claiming that Donald Trump wanted to ‘suck my c*ck’. Other emails are bizarrely encouraging employees to join Scientology.
NOAA Deputy Director of Communications, Scott Smullen, quickly responded to the situation, apologizing in a memo to staff: “I’m sorry this happened to us. I will report it.”
But it wasn’t just a one-off. The emails continued to flow, revealing how easily the new broadcast system could be abused. According to employees, the system has little to no security, which made it a prime target for anyone looking to send unsolicited messages.
One NOAA employee told journalist Ken Klippenstein, who first reported the story, “Goes to show you how fast this [new comms system] was cobbled together – no security or screening on this address.”
And Klippenstein himself didn’t miss the opportunity to test the system, sending a link to his newsletter to all 13,000 NOAA employees. “I just sent this email to all 13,000 federal employees of the NOAA lol,” he tweeted. “The Trump administration’s changes to their communications system made it so literally anyone can blast messages out to the entire agency.”
The new system, launched by the Trump administration this month, allows all 2.3 million federal employees to be contacted from a single email address. Since its rollout, several federal agencies have started sending out mass emails. Some employees have mistaken these emails for spam, and it’s clear now that the system is wide open to abuse.
With the emails continuing to flow, it’s become clear just how vulnerable the system is — leaving federal workers stuck in a flood of unwanted and offensive messages.

JUST IN: Federal employees are receiving crude messages after the Trump administration's new email system turned out to be insecure. One of the mailing lists, for NOAA employees, is allowing emails to go through without any verification. pic.twitter.com/6EDUSSqwTa
