Tim Walz, running mate to Vice President Kamala Harris, set the internet ablaze after delivering a sharp jab at Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville during a Boston fundraiser on Wednesday night.

In a remark that quickly went viral, Walz, a former high school football coach, told the crowd, “I feel like one of my roles now is to be the anti-Tommy Tuberville, to show that football coaches are not the dumbest people.” The comment, directed at Tuberville’s football coaching legacy, highlighted a stark contrast between the two men’s public personas.

Walz, who coached at Mankato West High School from 1996 to 2006, aimed to undermine Tuberville, who had a notable career at Auburn University. The quip resonated widely on social media, intensifying the debate over the two figures.

In his speech, Walz also addressed the upcoming election challenges and defended his approach to political criticism, clarifying, “I don’t name-call people. My comments about Donald Trump and his running mate were observations, not personal attacks.”

The viral burn underscores the increasing intensity of political rhetoric as the election season heats up.
