Retired Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling on Saturday slammed former Donald Trump adviser and QAnon fanatic Michael Flynn for saying that the United States should have a single religion.
“If we are going to have one nation under God, which we must, we have to have one religion,” Flynn said while speaking on the “ReAwaken America” tour Saturday night. “One nation under God and one religion under God,” he added.
During the event, Flynn also accused President Joe Biden of election fraud, a claim that has been proved false.
Flynn’s remarks were met with furious backlash.
Gen. Hertling responded on Twitter, writing: “This man is an embarrassment to the US Army & an aberration to those of us who have proudly worn the cloth of our country,” he added: “His words are disgusting.”
Others critics called him “nuts” and “the most unpatriotic” man in America.

The First Amendment of the US Constitution says:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press;

The Founding Fathers were smart enough to recognize that religion in politics would bring about the destruction of this country❗️

How deranged does your mind have to be if you believe that the apostle Matthew was talking about America? The Republicans are radicalizing Christianity to the detriment of the whole country.#Flynn

The Founding Fathers would have thrown his ass in jail and charged him with Treason. The most unpatriotic, America-hating thing anyone has said in recent memory. He doesn’t belong here and if you support this, neither do you.

We’re living through an endless cycle of republican abuse of power and obstruction of justice that has seen two impeachments and an ongoing insurrection so far. There is no end, no bottom, they simply will not comply with the imperatives of government or institutions of justice

I mistakenly thought you had to possess a certain level of intelligence & at least some sense of history to climb as high as Flynn did.
I was wrong.— PW (@pw3nva) November 13, 2021
JFC, this is nuts. So Michael Flynn, which religion? Something Christian, right? But which one? Presbyterian? Catholic? (Etc?). Or are you thinking of other religions, maybe Jewish or Buddhist or Muslim (etc)? Please advise.

Nowhere in the Constitution does it say we must have one nation under God. That's from an 1890s poem, Pledge of Allegiance. A poem written by a socialist pastor, by the way.

The man who advocated for martial law to overturn Trump’s election loss also wants to establish one religion.
Note: The Establishment Clause of the 1st A provides, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.…”
