Former Fox News host Dan Bongino is facing backlash for what some are describing as an “open threat” against Kellyanne Conway, a prominent ally of former President Donald Trump.
Bongino recently accused Conway—ex-wife of anti-Trump lawyer George Conway—of “sabotaging” Trump’s re-election bid. This claim came after Bongino, who was dismissed from Fox News over an incident at a Palm Beach restaurant last year, was reported to have issued a direct warning to Conway.
According to reports, Bongino told Conway, “You’ve been warned,” amid accusations of internal sabotage within the Trump campaign. He linked Conway to a campaign against Trump’s Vice Presidential pick, J.D. Vance, and expressed frustration, labeling a Daily Mail article on the topic as “bulls—.”
“I’ve been hearing some things… I talk to people a lot who know a lot of things,” Bongino said. “This is getting tiresome.”
Bongino suggested that Conway was involved in a financial scheme related to potential Ukraine funding, describing her actions as motivated by personal gain.
“I suspect strongly this was a leak,” he said, adding that Kellyanne Conway is interested in a “money train” related to potential funding for Ukraine. “This is the Kellyanne Conway camp.”
Criticism of Bongino’s remarks has been swift. Kurt Bardella, a former staffer for Republican Senator Olympia Snowe and Congressman Darrell Issa, condemned Bongino’s comments, stating, “This is an open threat that could only lead to violence and should be widely condemned by anyone who cares about the public discourse. It is downright disturbing and unacceptable.”
S.V. Dáte, HuffPost’s White House correspondent, also weighed in, noting, “There’s apparently this Bongino guy who has some influence in the Trump Cult who is losing his mind over the rumor that Kellyanne Conway is trying to get Trump to fire Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles.”
I’m no defender of @KellyannePolls but this is an open threat that could only lead to violence and should be widely condemned by anyone who cares about the public discourse. This is not ok. It is downright disturbing and unacceptable. https://t.co/u1Sd7W4d9A
