Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick declared this week that Republicans in Texas will redraw congressional maps to their advantage — and no one is going to stop them.

Appearing on Fox News’ Hannity, Patrick openly defended the GOP’s aggressive redistricting plan, which aims to add as many as five Republican-leaning seats ahead of the 2026 midterms. The move breaks with the traditional once-a-decade redistricting cycle — and Patrick didn’t hide the motive.

“There’s nothing they can do to stop us,” he told host Sean Hannity. “We are a red state, we deserve more representation.”

Patrick said Republicans are ready to pass the new map “whatever it takes,” whether it’s in the current special session or another one later this year.

“We’re gonna move it forward… Whether it’s this month… in later August, we’re gonna do it in September, we’re gonna do it in October,” he said. “Whatever it takes, Sean, whatever it takes, we’re going to get it done.”

The plan would create five new GOP-friendly districts, potentially locking in Republican control of the U.S. House. Texas Democrats, furious over the move, fled to Illinois to block a vote by denying the state House a quorum.

Governor Greg Abbott responded by ordering their arrest.

Patrick attacked the Democrats as being out of touch. “Don’t run and hide because you’ve lost touch with the voters,” he said. “Their problem… is they’ve lost the minds of their voters, who are moving towards the Republican Party all over the country.”

In other words, Republicans are ready to bend the rules because they believe the political tide is on their side — and they want the maps to reflect that.

California Governor Gavin Newsom hit back, saying he’d consider redrawing his state’s districts to favor Democrats if Texas moves forward.

This fight isn’t just about maps — it’s about power, and who gets to hold on to it.
