Donald Trump character made a chaotic—and predictably self-centered—entrance on Saturday Night Live this weekend, crashing a fictional New York City mayoral debate just to talk about himself.
The sketch opened with debate host Kenan Thompson asking the candidates what they saw as the “biggest problem” facing New York. That’s when James Austin Johnson’s Trump character suddenly appeared and cut right to the chase: “It’s me.”
From there, the impersonation went full ego mode. “Yes, they can pretend this election is about housing and taxes, but we all know it’s about me, right? Because I’m gonna be very involved, very hands on,” he added, pausing to make a quick joke at former Governor Andrew Cuomo’s expense.
The mock debate only escalated when Zohran Mamdani’s character, representing the Democratic side, entered the conversation. SNL’s Trump immediately went on the attack, claiming Mamdani doesn’t “have the mind” Trump supposedly possesses for the role.
Then came the crown jewel of the sketch: Trump bragging about his brain. “I have good brain,” SNL’s Trump declared. “I took a cognitive test. I did so well on my cognitive test, that they immediately gave me an MRI.”
As with many SNL sketches, the absurdity of the scenario amplified the satire—but the core message landed loud and clear: Trump, in true form, turns every stage into a platform to celebrate himself.
