Saturday Night Live didn’t hold back in its opening sketch, humorously reenacting the infamous Oval Office meeting with President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The sketch poked fun at the world leaders, offering sharp jabs at their interactions.
The show didn’t stop there. It also took aim at Elon Musk and his so-called Department of Government Efficiency, with former SNL cast member Mike Myers playing the tech billionaire.
In the skit, SNL recreated Friday’s White House meeting, which they described as going “really, really well.” James Austin Johnson, playing Trump, introduced himself as the “CEO of Gaza hotel,” poking fun at the real president’s goal to turn the war-torn region into a “Riviera of the Middle East.”
Trump then turned to Zelensky (played by Mikey Day) and sarcastically complimented his outfit, saying, “I love Star Trek because there’s no DEI,” referencing Zelensky’s simple black sweater and pants. Trump seemed annoyed by his choice of attire.
The show also made fun of Trump’s tendency to avoid criticizing Russian President Vladimir Putin. The fake Trump told Zelensky to “tell Putin how much you loved him and you’re sorry.”
That’s when Bowen Yang, playing Vance, entered and said, “You haven’t said thank you for the past 15 seconds since I’ve been yelling at you.”
This line referred to the real-life meeting, where Vance pressed Zelensky, asking, “Have you said thank you once?” Zelensky replied, “A lot of times. Even today.” Vance then clarified, “No, in this entire meeting.”
Throughout the sketch, the fake Trump and fake Vance constantly interrupted Zelensky, just like the real leaders did during the actual meeting. At one point, Vance quipped, “Does the sign outside say ‘Ukraine House?’ No, it says ‘America House.’”
The cold open also parodied the “cards” part of the meeting, where the real Trump told Zelensky, “You’re not in a good position. You don’t have the cards right now with us.” Zelensky responded, “I’m not playing cards right now, I’m very serious Mr. President. I am a wartime president.”
In the sketch, Trump insisted, “I have ‘skip.’ I have ‘draw four.’ I have ‘reverse.’ I have ‘get out of jail free’ — the Supreme Court gave me that one.”
The fake Zelensky then suggested they visit Ukraine, to which Vance responded, “I’ve been to Ukraine on Google Maps. It’s a mess.”
But the satire didn’t stop with the Ukraine meeting. The sketch also featured Mike Myers, dressed as Elon Musk, who wore a “tech support” T-shirt, similar to one Musk wore at a recent meeting. Myers as Musk also carried a chainsaw, a nod to when the billionaire waved the tool at a right-wing conference.
The fake Musk joked, “What are you doing in my office? I’m the president now. I’m kidding. Maybe I’m not…”
Trump responded, “I’m so comfortable with all of that.”
SNL then poked fun at Musk’s DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) and its supposed impact on the federal government. The fake Trump explained, “They’re doing mass firings of the government. We love mass firings because we don’t need to know what their names are or what they do.”
Myers, as Musk, added, “We are firing all nonessential employees, like air traffic controllers,” referencing real-life layoffs at the Federal Aviation Administration under Trump’s administration, though air traffic controllers were not affected.
Myers then introduced the fake next steps for DOGE, calling it the Department of Undoing Child Healthcare and Education (DOUCHE), saying, “DOUCHE is going to be epic. It’s going to really clean everything out.”
