Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) once again sparked the ire of the internet after tweeting his excitement at a report that a low-cost airline is now offering cheap flights from Houston to Cancun.
“Excited to travel again?” a tweet from ABC13 Houston on Tuesday read. “This airline can hook you up with a cheap flight to sunny Cancun or even Las Vegas!”
“Awesome!” Cruz responded in a tweet of his own.
Earlier this year, Cruz found himself in the middle of a firestorm after he was spotted at an airport traveling to Cancun during a natural disaster in his home state of Texas.
At the time, he blamed his daughters for his decision to leave the country during the ice storm that knocked out power, water and heat to thousands in the state, claiming he went with them because he was trying to be “a dad.”
But the Texas Republican, who has earned the nickname “Cancun Cruz,” seems to be unable to resist the popular tourist town and his excitement quickly backfired:

Don’t think your constituents find your sense of humor appealing after you abandoned them in a time of crisis

Making jokes about how you abandoned your state leading to a child freezing to death does not make it ok.

The people of your state were in dire straits when you willfully abandoned them.
The fact that you are joking about it confirms that you have no regrets.
You are what you are, sir.

I'd refrain on commenting on trips to Cancun if I were you pic.twitter.com/shQW0TOGcI

People died, Ted.

To blatantly make fun of people dying is just sick

I’m sure the 151 people who died when the power grid failed (because the Greedy Republican leaders in Texas didn’t weatherize them) wouldn’t find your tweet amusing.
