An armed man was shot by US Secret Service agents outside the White House on Sunday morning. The Secret Service confirmed the incident shortly after it happened.
According to CNN, Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said the agency had been warned about a man traveling from Indiana to Washington, D.C., who was said to be suicidal.
When agents saw a person matching the description near the White House, they found his car parked nearby. Guglielmi explained that as officers approached, the man pulled out a gun. This led to an armed confrontation, during which Secret Service agents fired their weapons.
The man was taken to the hospital, but his condition is not yet known.
President Donald Trump was not at the White House at the time and no Secret Service personnel were injured in the incident.
The DC Metropolitan Police’s Internal Affairs Division will investigate the shooting, as they handle all cases involving officer-involved shootings in the city.
