Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), once a vocal critic turned close ally of former President Donald Trump, has drawn sharp criticism for his recent comments regarding President Joe Biden, whom he praised following Biden’s decision to withdraw from the presidential race.
In an unexpected shift from his usual partisan attacks, Graham expressed appreciation for Biden’s decades of public service, stating, “While we have political differences, I appreciate his lifelong service to our nation, which he dearly loves. He has devoted his entire life to public service for the people of Delaware and the United States, and I wish him and his family well as this chapter in his life comes to an end.”
This statement, reported by Politico, marked a departure from Graham’s typical rhetoric aimed at undermining Biden’s presidency.
However, Graham’s change in tone has not been well-received. Many took to social media to accuse him of hypocrisy and insincerity, suggesting that his public stance differs markedly from his private beliefs.
One Twitter user, @mammasaysstuff, derided Graham, commenting, “Before Lindsey sold his soul for relevancy and turned on his good friend, John McCain, he was a little too honest for MAGA-world. What a duplicitous slime-ball!”
Others pointed to Graham’s history of shifting allegiances, particularly his close friendship with Biden in the Senate, juxtaposed against his fervent support for Trump. “@jaxroam” tweeted, “Graham often says the right things, unless Trump wants otherwise. Then he says whatever Trump wants him to say.”
The backlash intensified with references to Graham’s political maneuvers, highlighting perceptions of political opportunism and prompting accusations of hypocrisy.
“Lindsey Graham is perplexed to see a politician with a spine doing the right thing. For him, this is like spotting an alien,” commented user @jacktbernhard.
Twitter user @BuckyNoseBest added a sarcastic note, “Every once in a while Graham’s soul comes up for air,” echoing sentiments that Graham’s political maneuvers often lack genuine conviction.
User @roblew9013 was even more blunt, writing: “Graham is scum and a stain on South Carolina.”
