U.S. Representative Maxine Dexter (D-OR) reportedly told her constituents on Saturday that many Republican lawmakers are supporting Donald Trump because they have been receiving “death threats.”
Dexter, who had announced a town hall meeting in Gresham, Oregon, on March 1, made this surprising statement during the event. According to Parkrose Permaculture, a popular YouTube commentator who attended, Dexter shared the information directly with those present.
“I just got home from my congresswoman’s packed town hall,” Parkrose Permaculture said.
In the video below, the YouTuber then shared a quote from Dexter about Ukraine and Trump’s actions in the Oval Office. Dexter reportedly said, “I want to make it clear Ukraine gave up the third largest nuclear arsenal in 1994 in exchange for America and Europe’s help for the long term. What Trump is doing is destabilizing everyone’s security, the world security.”
Dexter also expressed concern about potential war, saying, “I am concerned that my children will be sent to war, a war that is unnecessary.” She added, “No one should misunderstand what happened yesterday in the Oval Office is putting our security at risk and the world’s security at risk.”
According to Parkrose Permaculture’s report, Dexter then mentioned that some Republican lawmakers are afraid to speak out. “There are Republicans who, when they think of stepping out of line, they get a call from the President,” Dexter said. “They are getting death threats.”
In a follow-up post on Blue Sky, Parkrose Permaculture wrote, “Here’s what I don’t understand: if so many GOP members in Congress are truly getting death threats, why aren’t they recording the calls, putting them together, and releasing them to the public?”
“Shine a light on it and the threats lose all their power,” the commentator added.
