Stephen Miller has long been the crown prince of ridiculous Trump policies, but his latest obsession—a plan to move Americans to Greenland—has gone from absurd to alarming. Even a Republican strategist called the idea “really dumb”. Now, Miller has refused to rule out taking Greenland by force from Denmark, turning a bizarre policy fantasy into a geopolitical warning sign.
On Monday, CNN’s Jake Tapper pressed Miller about the possibility of military action. Despite asking at least three times, Miller ducked, deflected, and pivoted, ultimately refusing to guarantee that U.S. troops wouldn’t be deployed against a territory of 30,000 people. “What do you mean, military action against Greenland? Greenland has a population of 30,000 people, Jake. The real question is, by what right does Denmark assert control over Greenland?” Miller said.
Miller doubled down on the Trump administration’s obsession with the Arctic. “Trump has been clear for months now that the United States should be the country that has Greenland as part of our overall security apparatus,” he added, framing the territory not as a sovereign part of Denmark but as a potential appendage of American military strategy. When Tapper pressed again, Miller accused him of fishing for a “catchy headline”—a stunning admission that even the idea of invading Greenland was on the table.
According to The Daily Beast, the provocations extend beyond Miller himself. His wife, former White House deputy press secretary Katie Miller, posted an image of Greenland overlaid with the American flag on X, captioned simply: “SOON.”

The symbolism isn’t subtle. It signals that this isn’t just idle policy chatter—it’s a coordinated effort to normalize the idea of annexing foreign territory by force.
Even seasoned Republicans are appalled. One strategist publicly condemned Miller’s Greenland plan as “really dumb,” according to The Beast. This isn’t just bad politics or an impractical real estate scheme; it’s a dangerous flirtation with military escalation over a territory that is not, and has never been, U.S. soil.
Miller’s obsession reflects a larger pattern: ideology over reality, spectacle over governance, and a willingness to entertain military action for the sake of a headline. Buying Greenland or relocating Americans is already laughable, but hinting at force pushes the envelope from absurdity into recklessness.

TAPPER: Can you rule out that the US is going to take Greenland by force?
STEPHEN MILLER: Greenland should be part of the US. By what right does Denmark assert control over Greenland? The US is the power of NATO.
TAPPER: So you can't take military force off the table?
