Fatman Scoop, a New York City native, gained fame with his 1999 hit “Be Faithful” and his memorable feature on Missy Elliott’s 2005 track “Lose Control.” His stage name was inspired by his uncle’s nickname for him due to his love of ice cream.

Eyewitnesses at the Hamden show reported that Freeman, who was performing shirtless, was seen encouraging the crowd to “make some noise” before he suddenly collapsed. Concert footage captured the moment he fell, and later videos showed emergency responders performing chest compressions as the audience looked on in concern.

Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett confirmed the incident on social media, noting that Freeman experienced a “medical emergency” and was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
