Russian General Roman Gavrilov, the deputy chief of Russia’s Federal National Guard, has reportedly been arrested by the FSB security service and accused of leaking information that led to heavy losses in Ukraine, Euro Weekly News reported Wednesday.
The news comes hours after the head of the Russian Central Bank abruptly resigned, indicating that Putin’s inner circle is on the brink of collapse as the invasion of Ukraine is limping on and a furious Vladimir Putin is looking for someone to blame for the poor performance of his forces.
According to the Russian news outlet Pravda, Russia has racked up a huge number of casualties so far in Ukraine.
The Kremlin has failed to confirm any exact figures, but according to U.S. officials, Russia’s total casualties surpass 7,000 troops. Meanwhile, Ukraine claims to have killed in the region of 13,500 invading Russian troops.
According to Bulgarian investigative journalist, Christo Grozev, the reason for Gavrilov’s arrest is unknown. But he cites a report claiming that he was detained over “leaks of military info that led to loss of life”, while two others say it was “wasteful squandering of fuel”.
