Authorities have identified a 57-year-old man as the suspect in the shooting of two Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses early Saturday, according to the Associated Press.
Police responded to a call around 2 a.m. at the home of state Sen. John Hoffman (DFL), where they found him and his wife with multiple gunshot wounds. Both were taken to a nearby hospital.
Shortly after, officers were sent to the home of Melissa Hortman, a former Minnesota House Speaker. She and her husband were found dead.
The suspect, dressed as a police officer, reportedly exchanged gunfire with authorities before fleeing the scene. He left his vehicle behind, sparking a large manhunt.
The AP reports the suspect has been identified as Vance Boelter, 57, citing law enforcement sources who “could not publicly discuss details of the ongoing investigation.”

As reported by KSTP, “Documents obtained by 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS show Boelter, whose current address is listed in Green Isle, Minnesota, was twice appointed to the Governor’s Workforce Development Council in 2016 under former Gov. Mark Dayton and again in 2019 under Gov. Tim Walz. His most recent term expired in January 2023.”
