Kentucky GOP Sen. Rand Paul is under fire for attacking Nancy Pelosi’s daughter in a tweet just hours after her father was violently attacked in his San Francisco home by a man with a hammer.
Paul used the incident to attack the younger Pelosi over a tweet about a neighbor attacking Paul in November 2017 over a dispute concerning their yards.
“No one deserves to be assaulted. Unlike Nancy Pelosi’s daughter who celebrated my assault, I condemn this attack and wish Mr. Pelosi a speedy recovery,” the Kentucky senator tweeted on Friday.
Paul’s tweet was met with furious backlash.
“You are such a petty little man. I remember when your violent fans celebrated you WALKING AWAY (with your MD) while the woman your hired thugs curb-stomped lay on the ground seriously injured. So, this tweet represents your dishonesty, hypocrisy, pettiness, and lack of character,” user Sandy Knauer wrote in response.
“That Rand can’t bring himself to either just say nothing or condemn the assault without resorting to whataboutism speaks volumes about him,” journalist Aaron Rupar tweeted.
“This tweet is an example of why no one felt sympathetic about Senator Badperm getting thrown around by his neighbor,” another Twitter user said.
“Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like getting beat up for being a shitty neighbor and getting attacked by someone who broke into your house trying to assassinate your wife are actually not the same thing,” a third person said.
“You were sooooo close to showing some actual grace and compassion….but oh well,” CNN’s Matt Dominick tweeted.
“Politicizing it and making it all about you is probably the s*** that got your a** beat huh,” another Twitter user said.

A perfect example of one of the most insincere and backhanded gestures of sympathy ever by a supposed leader who should remain above the fray. These are GOP leaders in this country now, petty and churlish.

You could have been gracious, but that isn't you. You need to acknowledge that this type of attack is a direct result of the violent hateful rhetoric spewed by members of your own party.

You were punched by a neighbor during an argument. He was attacked unprovoked in his home. This is a sad excuse at drawing equivalency and not even close to any type of sincerity.

Way to make it about you, Senator!
Because a disagreement with a neighbor is exactly like a home invasion in the middle of the night.
