Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) is facing intense backlash for his recent social media posts about the deadly shootings in Minnesota that targeted Democratic lawmakers.
While police were still hunting the suspect — identified as Vance Boelter — Lee took to X (formerly Twitter) to mock the situation. The attack had already left two people dead and two more injured, and authorities warned Boelter was armed, dangerous, and had written a manifesto targeting lawmakers.
Instead of showing concern, Lee posted sarcastic messages. In one, he claimed Boelter was into “Marxism,” even though multiple reports described the suspect as a religious conservative who supported Donald Trump.
Lee also shared a chilling image: Boelter wearing a mask and knocking on a victim’s door just before opening fire.
“Nightmare on Waltz Street,” Lee wrote, in a jab at Minnesota’s Democratic Governor Tim Walz.
The response was immediate — and furious. Many said Lee’s behavior was beyond the pale, and some called for him to resign.
“Disgusting,” one user posted.
“Resign now,” another wrote.
“Mocking murder victims? This is depraved,” a third added.
