Robert Kraft, the billionaire owner of the New England Patriots, has sharply criticized Donald Trump, comparing his presidency to having “a drunk fraternity brother” in charge. He also warned that a Trump victory could steer America toward a scenario reminiscent of 1940s Germany.
Speaking on Charlamagne tha God’s iHeartRadio show, Kraft reflected on their past friendship but expressed his disillusionment with Trump since the January 6 Capitol riot.
Kraft shared that he and Trump became social friends in the early 1990s. He recalled that after the death of his wife, Trump was one of the few who reached out to offer support. Kraft even made a donation to Trump’s inauguration, believing initially that he would be beneficial for the economy.
However, Kraft’s perspective shifted dramatically during Trump’s chaotic presidency.
“I couldn’t believe it,” He stated. “It was like having someone who was a drunk fraternity brother become president of the United States.”
After the Capitol insurrection, Kraft severed ties with Trump, saying, “I was very upset by what happened on January 6… and I haven’t talked to him since then.”
During his interview, Kraft also discussed his anti-racism initiative, Timeout Against Hate, and referenced the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville as a catalyst for his efforts. He warned against the potential dangers of growing intolerance, stating, “I saw signs… of what was going on in Nazi Germany in the 30s, and I don’t want America to be what Germany was in the 40s.”
“This man is weak and he is unfit,” he added.
His comments come amid a broader political discourse where Vice President Kamala Harris has also criticized Trump’s leadership, describing it as “fascist” and a sign of weakness.
“The man is really quite weak,” Harris said. “He’s weak. It’s a sign of weakness that you want to please dictators and seek their flattery and favor. It’s a sign of weakness that you would demean America’s military and America’s service members. It’s a sign of weakness that you don’t have the courage to stand up for the Constitution of the United States and the principles upon which it stands.”
Harris emphasized that Trump’s actions reflect an inability to uphold democratic values and respect for the Constitution, echoing Kraft’s sentiments about the former president’s unfitness for office.
In a climate where political divisions run deep, Kraft’s desire for unity stands out. He noted, “Once you take a side politically, then you alienate people, and I want everyone in.”
