Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 84, was hospitalized while traveling in Europe with a group of lawmakers, her office confirmed.

Pelosi was in Luxembourg as part of a bipartisan delegation to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. During an official event, she sustained an injury and was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation, ABC News reported, citing her spokesperson, Ian Krager.

“Speaker Emerita Pelosi is receiving excellent care from medical professionals,” Krager said in a statement. “She continues to work but regrets she cannot attend the rest of the trip’s events to honor our veterans and the heroic efforts of American servicemembers during this significant moment in history.”

Pelosi also expressed her gratitude to U.S. veterans and the people of Luxembourg and Bastogne for their role in World War II and in helping bring peace to Europe, Krager added.

Eighteen members of Congress were part of the delegation, which included House Speaker Mike Johnson, Rep. Michael McCaul, and Rep. Mark Takano. The lawmakers had planned to participate in ceremonies marking the anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.

Pelosi, who won reelection in November to her California seat, stepped down as House Speaker in 2022 after Republicans gained control of the House. However, she remains an influential figure in the Democratic Party.
